The British Museum in
London is one of the world's larges and most important museums of
human history and culture. Its collections, which number more than
seven million objects from all continents, illustrate and document
the story of human culture from its beginning to the present. As with all national museums and art galleries in Britain, the entrance is free. It was established in 1753. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759 in Montague House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building. Its expansion over the following two and a half centuries has resulted in the creation of several branch institutions, British Museum (Natural History) in South Kensington in 1887. Until 1997 when the British Library opened to the public, the British museum was unique in that it housed both a national museum of antiquities and a national library in the same building.

importante del mundo. Sus colecciones con mas de siete millones de
objetos de todos los continentes, ilustran y documentan la historia
de la cultura humana desde su inicio hasta hoy en día. Como el resto de museos nacionales y galerías de fotos en Gran Bretaña, la entrada es gratuita. Fue establecido en 1753. El museo abrio al publico por primera vez el 15 de Enero de 1759 en Montague House en Bloomsbury, donde se encuentra el museo actualmente. Su expansión durante los proximos dos siglos y medio llevó a la creación de otras sucursales como el Museo Britanico de Historia Natural en South Kensignton en 1887. Hasta 1997 cuando la Biblioteca Britanica abrió al publico, el Museo Britanico era unico en que tenia en sus instalaciones tanto el museo nacional de antiguedades como la biblioteca nacional. |
