Tower Bridge is a bascule
bridge over the River Thames. It is close to the Tower of London
which gives it its name. It is sometimes mistakenly called London
Bridge which is the next bridge upstream. Construction started in 1886 and took eight years, employing five contractors and 432 construction workers. The bridge was opened on 30 June 1894 by the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII and his wife Alexandra of Denmark. |
Tower Bridge es un puente
basculante sobre el Río Tamesis. Se encuentra situado cerca de la
Torre de Londres del cual coge su nombre. A veces equivocadamente se
le llama Puente de Londres, que es el siguiente puente. Su construcción empezó en 1886 y tardó ocho años, empleando cinco contratistas y 432 trabajadores. El puente abrió el 30 de Junio de 1894 por el Principe de Gales, el futuro Rey Eduardo VII y su esposa Alexandra de Dinamarca. |
