Always allow access to fresh clean water. |
2 |
Horses should be fed according to their temperament, condition and
bodyweight. |
3 |
You should feed for work done and not in anticipation of the work
the horse is about to do. |
4 |
Plenty of fibre should be fed to help gut function. You should feed
a minimum of 50% of their diet as roughage. |
5 |
You should feed by weight and not by volume of feed, weigh a scoop
full and a haynet. |
6 |
Try and feed at the same time each day. Horses like a settled
routine. |
7 |
You should feed little and ofter, keep feeds of concentrates to 2 -
2.5 kg. per feed. |
8 |
Use high quality feeds, avoid dusty or mouldy feed. |
9 |
If you need to change the diet, do it gradually to avoid the risk of
digestive upset. |

- 3 hours after feeding and don't feed until 1 hour after working. |
