USEFUL HORSE AND PONY TERMS

 

Horse	A horse is more than 14.2 hands high.
Pony	A pony is 14.2 hands high or smaller.
Mare	A mare is a female.
Gelding	A gelding is a male that has had its testicles removed.
Colt	A colt is a young male.
Filly	A filly is a young female.
Stallion	A stallion is a male who hasn't been gelded.
Yearling	A yearling is one year old.
Foal	A foal is from birth to one year old.
