In October 2009 NASA send LCROSS sonda to the moon, its mission was to shoot a rocket into Cabeus crater on the south pole of the moon to collect samples from the area and search for evidences of water on our satellite.

This mission leaded by John Colaprete confirmed that an "impressive" ammount of water was found, approximately 12 buckets of about 8 litres each.

Nasa's plans for a base on the Moon are still going ahead.
